Armed Forces Celebration next weekend at City Park

The Rowan County Veterans Council will host an Armed Forces Day Celebration May 16 at the Patriot’s Flag Concourse at City Park located at the corner of West Miller and Jackson streets.

The program begins at 10 a.m. with opening remarks followed by retrieval of the old colors where all of the Armed Forces flags will be taken down. Retired Army Special Forces Command Sgt. Maj. Roy Wilkins will be the keynote speaker, and following Wilkins’ comments the new colors will be posted as the national anthem is played. The public is invited to attend and lawn chairs welcomed. Refreshments will be provided following the program.
