A Spencer man who nearly crashed his car Thursday in front of an officer now faces misdemeanor drug charges.

Salisbury Police charged LaMichael Donnell Feamster, 23, of the 1000 block of Second Street, with misdemeanor marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said officers were traveling near Morlan Park Road  and South Jake Alexander Boulevard when a man in a white Mazda ran off the road to the right side and nearly into a ditch. He also put his right hand turn signal on, but turned left, officials said.

An officer stopped the car around noon and noticed Feamster kept reaching down for something. The officer asked Feamster about his driving. Feamster told the officer it was because he’d smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

Feamster was searched and the officer found and seized 3.2 grams of marijuana.

Feamster was charged in October with drug possession after the driver of the vehicle he was in parked illegally in a handicapped space. When the officer got out with Feamster, the driver and another passenger, he did not immediately provide his name and where he lived. Police eventually searched Feamster and found marijuana, beer, digital scales and cash on him. He was given two and a 1/2 years of probation in that incident.

Prior to that incident, he was released from prison in September after serving time for speeding to elude arrest, altering a serial number on a handgun and carrying a concealed weapon. He’s also been convicted of driving while impaired, assault on a female, larceny and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
