Police say they were going to a Green Street home to serve warrants on a person after getting a tip, but charged another Salisbury man with misdemeanor drug possession.

Eugene William Black Jr., 21, of the 300 block of East Fisher Street, was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, felony carrying a concealed weapon, felony possession of a handgun.

Salisbury Police went to the 800 block of Green Street on Thursday afternoon, but found Black and another man in the back yard of the home. Neither of them were the person officers were looking for, but they could smell marijuana.

Officers checked the men and found a stolen 45-caliber Haskell handgun and one marijuana blunt in the pocket of Black’s cargo shorts. The marijuana was 1 gram, a report said.

Black was charged in an October incident with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and was convicted in January. He is serving a year of probation for that offense.
