GRANITE QUARRY — OK, so the new fire truck hasn’t arrived yet.

On their late April trip to the Pierce plant in Appleton, Wisc., Fire Chief Dale Brown and Deputy Chief Bill Fraley noticed some items that had to be changed on the truck ultimately destined for Granite Quarry.

That has moved the expected delivery date of the truck to the end of May, not the beginning, Town Manager Justin Price reported Monday night.

The town still hopes to have an open house at the fire station in June so the public can see the new truck.

Alderman Mike Brinkley said Monday the town should not take delivery of the truck until it received a firm, final price from the seller. “There is supposed to be a reduction in price,” Price added.

The Board of Aldermen approved Brinkley’s motion that the town not accept delivery until the final price is given to the town.

Numerous changes in the truck’s specifications have taken place since aldermen approved in February 2014 a price of $449,871 from Atlantic Emergency Solutions/ Pierce.

When that initial approval came, the town looked for delivery in the fall of 2014.

In other Granite Quarry news:

• Brinkley asked Price to give to the board cost and construction details behind an item related to the newly renovated space for a reserve fire engine. “Why did certain things happen that should not have happened?” Brinkley asked. “… I want a report soon.”

• The town board approved the addition of Civitan International emblems on the entrance signs to Granite Quarry on both ends of U.S. 52. Howard Brown Jr., secretary for the club, made the request. He said the emblems will be 14 to 18 inches wide, plastic and glued onto the existing granite.

• The Community Appearance Committee plans a community-wide cleanup day May 16, a Saturday, from 8 a.m.-noon. All volunteers are welcome to meet at the Town Hall at 8 a.m. Many volunteers are needed, Alderman Arin Wilhelm said. Participants will be invited to lunchtime food and fellowship at Civic Park.

• Dumpster Days in Granite Quarry will make a large Dumpster available to residents from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 14 and 15 and from 8 a.m.-noon May 16.

• Plans are proceeding for the first Grand Ole Granite Quarry Duck Derby June 13 at Granite Lake Park. Participating merchants are selling tickets for rubber ducks which will be raced that day in the lake. The ducks will be propelled by the wind from a Rowan County Rescue Squad airboat.

• Fish For Fun Day at Granite Lake Park will be held June 20.
