The Rowan County Democratic Party elected Geoffrey Hoy, on Saturday, to his first full term as chairman.

Hoy first became chairman in September 2014, after former chair Veleria Levy stepped down to take care of family matters. Prior to that, Hoy was the first vice-chairman of the party. Along with a chairman, Rowan Democrats during their Saturday convention selected officers and representatives to the Democratic State Executive Committee.

“What we will be working on is mobilizing Democrats to the polls, voting for Democrats and helping our candidates as much as possible,” Hoy said. “We’re not naive in thinking that we’re going to turn Rowan County blue, but we can increase the percentage of Democrats voting and people voting for Democrats.”

Local Democrats have also been raising money to secure an office in Downtown Salisbury.

Other officers elected Saturday include Phyllis Pullen as first vice-chair, Bill Cameron as second vice-chair, Holden Sides as third vice-chair, Dianne Sartiano as secretary and Michelle Reid as treasurer. Sides, who was re-elected as third vice-chair, is the youngest officer of either Rowan County political party — Republicans or Democrats. Sides is a student at Catawba College.
