Motorcyclist injured crashing into tree

The operator of the motorcycle traveling West left the roadway and struck a 60-year-old maple tree. EMS transported the operator to the hospital.
A Salisbury woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when her motorcycle struck a tree and she was thrown from the bike.
N.C. Highway Patrol troopers say Teresa Hambe Knight, 50, was traveling in the 3000 block of Long Ferry Road when she ran off the road to the right, hit a ditch and struck a maple tree. She was wearing a helmet, officials said.
Knight was treated at the scene by medical personnel and taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, said Millers Ferry Fire Capt. Josh Fox. The extent of her injuries was not clear this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. not far from Millers Ferry Fire Department. Troopers remained on the scene to investigate. It is not clear what led to the crash.
The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 mph and people speed quite a bit, said resident Amanda Bowyer.
The crash occurred in the yard of Bowyer’s in-laws, and it’s not the first time, she said.
Bowyer, who is a paramedic, said people usually drive fast before coming upon the curve near the house. She estimates there are two to three accidents a year on that stretch of road.
She recalled a crash two years ago where the motorist was intoxicated, crashed through a fence and landed rather close to her house. Bowyer said the woman in that crash was not seriously injured.
Troopers have not said whether speed was a factor in the motorcycle crash. Rowan County EMS and Millers Ferry Fire Department responded to the crash.
