Wallace at Destiny City Church

Danny Wallace was molested by his father from age 5 to 17, sold to other men, carried on homosexual affairs throughout his marriage, contracted HIV/AIDS — and has been delivered. How? He got real with God, and God honored his authenticity. Danny will will tell his story at Destiny City Church on Sunday March 15.

Destiny City Church meets on the campus of Livingstone College in the Wall Center Student Chapel on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Directions: Turn onto West Thomas St. from Fulton St. and go straight for three blocks. West Thomas turns into Old Plank Road. The student chapel is at 800 W. Thomas St. in the three-story brick building on the right on the first floor. Watch for signs.

 

Fisher Street Extension
ROCKWELL — Fisher Street Baptist comes to the East Rowan area beginning Sunday March 15and will meet at the East Rowan YMCA, 790 Crescent Road. Morning services are at 10:30 a.m.
Evening services will begin Sunday, April 12 at 6 p.m. geared towards parents and children, addressing issues that parents and  children face today.

 

Missions Day at Jerusalem Baptist

SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St. Ext., will celebrate Missions Day on Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service with guest speaker Thresa Phelps. Mrs. Phelps is a Granite Quarry native and a playwright and actor. She is the youngest daughter of  Ollie Wrice and the late Robert Wrice. As First Lady of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church she is married to the Rev. Dr. C. L. Phelps. She holds a bachelor of science in nursing from Winston-Salem State Unviersity, and is a PRN nurse at the Kiser Hospice House. All women attending are asked to wear white. There will be special music by Keith Holland.

The Rev. Dr. David Bracken is host pastor.

 

Mount Zion United Church Of Christ

CHINA GROVE – During the 11 a.m. service members of the Mt. Zion UCC Children’s Fellowship will light the Lenten Candle of Deliverance based on Psalm 107. Rev. Mark L. Burns will continue his Lenten Services of the Book of Psalms with his sermon “No Matter What.” The Mt. Zion Confirmation Class and Youth Fellowship will meet that afternoon at its regular 4:30-6 p.m. time. On Tuesday, March 17, the spirit of Saint Patrick is alive and well at the Mt. Zion UCC as the church family invites neighbors and friends at 5 p.m. to a St. Paddy’s Pancake Dinner in the new building. Starting at 5 p.m., the pancake meal will last until the syrup runs dry. Dr. Harris at Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church will deal with the importance of prayer during Bible study and morning worship on Sunday, March 15 with guest speaker Dr. James Harris. He will speak to the adults during Bible study at 10 a.m. and to the entire church at 11 a.m.

Dr. Harris grew up in Henderson and has served as pastor of Southern Baptist Churches in Washington, Texas, California, West Virginia and North Carolina. He came to Salisbury in July, 1972 as pastor of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. During his six years of ministry, the church increased by 650 members with an average attendance of over 500 in Sunday School and Worship. After some years in evangelism, Jim became the founding pastor of Friendship Baptist Church and remained there for more than nine years before retiring. For the next five years, Harris served churches as interim pastor before becoming full time pastor of Memorial Baptist Church, Kannapolis. After six years of ministry there, he retired the second time in 2006.

The 6 p.m. service will be under the leadership of Calvary Baptist Youth and directed by Travis Connor, interim youth director. Travis grew up in Calvary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his personal savior and recently answered the Call of God to the Gospel ministry. The evening service will begin at 6 P.M. and the public is invited to attend.

Pastoral anniversary at New Bethel Baptist

MOCKSVILLE — The Rev. William Cowan Jr. and his wife Cherry will be honored on Sunday March 15 for his 12th pastoral anniversary at New Bethel Baptist Church. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Dr. Clary Phelps, pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Salisbury will be the speaker for the 3 p.m. service. New Bethel is located at 3727 US Highway 601 South.

Southern City AME Zion

EAST SPENCER — The Southern City AME Zion Church Deaconess Board will celebrate another year of service to the church with a musical program Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. Local groups, including the Southern City Inspirational Choir, will sing. The board will also recognize Irene K. Bates for her years of dedicated service. Guest deaconesses who attend the program are invited to wear white and sit in a special section. Hazel S. Kennedy is chairman of the board. The Rev. Patrick Tate is host pastor. Southern City Church is located at 940 S Long St.

 

Hall’s Chapel Men’s Fellowship

The Men’s Fellowship of Hall’s Chapel  Primitive Baptist Church, 611 E. Monroe St., will observe their annual stewardship day on  Sunday at 4 p.m. Elder Plyler Hemphill and congregation of Silver  Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Concord, will lead the service. United Ministerial Alliance

EAST SPENCER — The U.M.A. will host its joint fellowship service at 7 p.m., Sunday March 15 at Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., where Bishop W. Ronald Hash serves as pastor. The Rev. Evelyn Litaker-Miller, interim pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Salisbury, will deliver the Word.

 

New Destiny Temple of Faith

As an extension of the upcoming ministry titled RELAUNCH, Lady Rhinehart and her team of experts will guide seminar participants through the “Journey to Financial Freedom.” Kingdom-minded citizens may learn how to create wealth and secure a financial future for families, churches and communities.

Presentations with a guest speaker will be held each Thursday in March at 7 p.m. at the Salisbury Village Clubhouse, 200 Castlewood Drive, near the rental office.

 

Wittenberg Lutheran fundraiser

An Easter dinner and silent auction preschool fundraiser will be held at Wittenberg Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 21 from 5 -7 p.m. The silent auction ends at 7 p.m. Dinner is by donation. All proceeds will go to Wittenberg Lutheran Preschool. Funds supplemented by the East Rowan Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

 

Lilly’s Chapel Church of God

Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 W. Thomas St., is hosting a Gospel Explosion on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. There will be various choirs, soloists, groups, praise dancers and mime ministries participating. Sacred Places Tour

ROCKWELL — Historic Salisbury Foundation will host its second annual Sacred Places Tour, featuring ten historic churches, one cemetery and a restoration in progress on Saturday March 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At 9:30 a.m. at Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, Rowan Museum executive director Kaye Hirst will give an introduction highlighting the first settlers and the development of Lutheranism in the area.

The 2015 Sacred Places Tour will feature historic churches along Faith Road and Highway 52 including churches in Faith, Rockwell, Granite Quarry, Gold Hill and Salisbury.

Tickets are $10 at 704-636-0103. Day of Tickets are $15 at at Organ Lutheran Church in Rockwell and Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church in Salisbury for $15.

MOORE’S CHAPEL AME ZION CHURCH DEDICATION SERVICE

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church will have a dedication service on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m.

Bishop George E. Battle Jr., Presiding Prelate of the Piedmont Episcopal District and Senior Bishop of the AME Zion Church, will be the guest speaker.

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, founded in 1890, is located at 500 Partee St. in the West End Community. Often referred to as the “College Church,” Moore’s Chapel shares a rich history with Livingstone College.

In 2011, Moore’s Chapel began an extensive remodeling project and as a result will be dedicating the following: new roof with copper dome, handicap ramp, oak entrance doors, remodeled kitchen, purchase of adjacent property that is now a parking lot, church cemetery upgrades and other church essentials.

The Rev. Carolyn D. Bratton serves as pastor, Dr. Grant Harrison Jr., Presiding Elder of the Salisbury District, Herbert Chambers Jr., Trustee Board Chairman and Dorothy Gill-Smith, Preacher’s Steward.

 

12th MLK Memorial Peace Conference 

THOMASVILLE — The Martin Luther King Social Action Committee Inc. (MLK-SAC) will host its 12th annual MLK Memorial Peace Conference on Saturday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 108 Salem St. in Thomasville. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and the peace meal at 12:30 p.m. The conference marks the 47th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s theme is “A Relevant Message at a Critical Time.

The event offers an open dialogue on non-violence, social action and constructive social change. Presenters will discuss and strategize ways to address domestic violence, policy/community relations, gun violence and race relations. The 3 p.m. keynote speaker is Dr. S. Wayne Patterson, civil rights attorney and president of the Winston-Salem Branch of NAACP.

Missionary to the Sawi will speak at Wycliffe dinner

Don Richardson will speak at the Wycliffe Associates dinner event on Tuesday, April 14 at Salisbury Station historic depot. After completing training at Wycliffe Bible Translators’ Summer Institute of Linguistics, Don and his late wife spend 15 years serving among the Sawi people of New Guinea. During that time he designed an alphabet suited to their lantage, authored 19 primers, taught the villagers to read and translated the New Testament into Sawi.
