The Hanford Dole chapter of the American Red Cross is opening a warming station beginning at 6 p.m. tonight at the chapter office, 1930 West Jake Alexander Blvd.

Officials say the warming station will be opened because of the extreme cold temperatures that will be facing Rowan County the rest of the week.

Any residents affected by extreme cold or any widespread power outages may take advantage of the warming station. Red Cross volunteers will provide warm beverages and snacks, as needed. The need of the community will determine the duration of the warming station through the rest of the week.
