Jubiliee Choir, Livingstone College Concert Choir to present Black History Month concert Sunday

On Sunday, the Jubilee Choir, directed by Kay W. Norman, and the Livingstone College Concert Choir, directed by Dr. DaVaughn L. Miller, will jointly celebrate Black History and Livingstone College Day at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church at 4:30 p.m.

This program brings together two musical groups performing songs representative of the collective history of Black Americans from “Walk Together, Children,” “God’s Gonna Set This World On Fire,” and “He Never Failed Me Yet” by the Jubilee Choir to an arrangement of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” by Roland Carter, “Steal Away,” arranged by Diedre Robinson, and “Elijah Rock,” arranged by Moses Hogan to be performed by the Livingstone College Concert Choir.

In addition to the choral selections, the Jubilee Choir will present excerpts of the Langston Hughes poem “The Middle Passage” read by Lester Smith, and a speech choir oration of the Paul Laurence Dunbar poem, “We Wear the Mask.” Dr. Ethel Revis will recite the Langston Hughes poem, “The Negro Speaks of Rivers.”

Featured soloist for the Jubilee Choir is Rebecca Stinson in “Gospel Magnificat” and “He Never Failed Me Yet.” The Livingstone College Concert Choir soloists are Ronnie Pierce, in “Ezeliel Saw ‘da Wheel” and Tyquan Alston in “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

The public is invited to attend this presentation by the Jubilee Choir, a community group, and the Livingstone College Concert Choir.

A freewill offering will be accepted. Refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church is located on the corner of Church and Liberty streets in downtown Salisbury.
