More closings, delays for Wednesday

As temperatures drop back into the teens, secondary roads and shady spots are expected to refreeze overnight causing treacherous patches of black ice Wednesday morning.

The Rowan-Salisbury School System will be closed to students Wednesday, and all afternoon activities have been cancelled as well. It will be an optional workday for staff, and those who choose to report to work will be forgiven for two hours of time.

Kannapolis City Schools have also cancelled classes for students, with an optional workday for staff.

Salisbury Academy and North Hills Christian School have also cancelled Wednesday classes.

Sacred Heart Catholic School will run on a two-hour delay, and parents will be informed about after school activities by 1 p.m.

Catawba College will open at 11 a.m., and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has cancelled all morning classes. Staff should report to work at 12 p.m. and classes will resume at 1 p.m. All classes that are in process or end prior to 1:00 p.m. have been canceled.

Kannapolis — Garbage & recycling routes are on a one day delay. Tuesday’s route will be picked up today;today’s route will be picked up Thursday and so forth. Crews will begin their route on  Wednesday on a two hour delay as we anticipate icy roads in the morning.
City Offices will be on a two hour delay tomorrow as well.
Public Works staff members placed 170 tons of salt/slag and 3,800 gallons of brine on 70 miles of major roadways.
There have been no reports of downed trees or power outages.
