CHINA GROVE — Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine why a China Grove man shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

Officials said family members found Kimberly Allen, 40, and her husband, Steven Allen, 47, both dead inside a bedroom at their 579 Eudy Road home. Investigators said Steven Allen shot his wife in the head and then shot himself in the head.

Investigators said family members went to the home on Sunday around 2 p.m., knocked on the front door, but did not get a response. The family removed a back door of the home and found the pair. Family members backed out of the home and called law enforcement, said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

The initial incident was brought to the attention of law enforcement because Kimberly Allen’s parents had not heard from her or her husband since Wednesday. Sifford said it is believed the deaths occurred sometime on Wednesday or shortly thereafter.

The incident is still under investigation. It is not clear if the couple were having issues.

Investigators said Steven Allen was having some medical issues and has been undergoing tests and was being treated by a doctor. It is not clear what type of medical issues Allen was experiencing.

Sifford said Steven Allen did not have a significant criminal history. He was issued a criminal summons in February 2014 following a road rage incident.

Allen told sheriff’s officials he was driving when a vehicle drove behind him traveling fast. The driver came around him and flipped Allen off, a report said.

Officials said Allen was actually the aggressor and the victim told officials Allen was following him. The victim said he could see Allen mouthing words and waving his arms around. He said Allen pulled out a weapon that the victim believed to be a 9 mm handgun.

Allen was issued a criminal summons, which is similar to a warrant, for assault by pointing a gun.
