• Army Staff Sgt. Jason G. Koonttz has arrived for duty as a recruiter with Gresham Recruiting Center, Portland Recruiting Battalion, Ore. He is a 2004 graduate of Rowan-Cabarus Community College in Salisbury.

• U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Andrew L. Brown graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Brown earned distinction as an honor graduate.

The son of David R. and Tamara R. Brown of Salisbury, the airman is a 2011 graduate of Rockwell Christian School/Brown Christian Academy, Rockwell.
