Rowan weather: Freezing fog, but warming up

Published 7:55 am Thursday, January 15, 2015

Yes, that is freezing fog out there, a rare phenomenon for our area. The fog leaves a thin coat of ice, especially on metal surfaces, like your car, and makes the already cold temperature of 26 seem even colder.

The fog will eventually lift, but it’s still going to be a cloudy day.  Temperatures are expected to rise to around 46 degrees. We’ll have a 20 percent chance of rain tonight and more fog, with a low of 29.

The sun should come out Friday, a great relief for many people. The high should be 49, with wind from the northwest at 5-7 mph. Friday night will be clear and cold, with a low around 28.

The days that follow are going to be mostly sunny with more seasonal highs in the low 50s.

Saturday will be sunny and 51; the low will be 34. Sunday will be partly sunny and 53; the low will be 31.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be sunny and 49, with a low of 28. If you have the day off, it should feel quite pleasant.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 51 and a low around 33.

And Wednesday will be partly sunny with a high near 53.
