New arts & crafts classes:

Workshop on making paper beads

Do you admire beautiful beaded jewelry such as was made and worn by Victorian women? Do you also admire beads made by Ugandan women whose cooperative sells its wares over the Internet?

For the modern woman or man, beadmaking is an ideal hobby. It is inexpensive, takes up little space and produces something beautiful.

At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, at their new location — Center for Faith & the Arts, CFA, 207 W. Harrison St. — Olde Rowan Fiber Guild will have a workshop on making paper beads. For non-members there is a $5 fee (built into members’ yearly dues) and for all there is a $2 fee for a kit of necessities.

Participants should bring scissors, a wooden ruler or other rigid straight edge and a foam egg carton. Some of the items may be shared with others.

Instructor Jose Esquivel, a Fiber Guild member, guarantees at least a pair of earrings as a result of the evenings work. She urges everyone to “make it beautiful.”

Paint Your Own Pottery at Pottery 101

Let’s Get Messy! at Pottery 101

This one evening pottery class offers the opportunity to try your hand at the potter’s wheel without committing to a full session of classes. Participants will be instructed on the basics of wheel throwing and will make and decorate pots.
