GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s Pharr twins, Shenell and Shenique, were a whirlwind on Monday — two nearly identical, high-motor mercy-rulers.

The Pharrs teamed for 31 points and overwhelmed Cox Mill on both ends of the floor, as the Mustangs (6-1, 4-1) rolled, 62-22, in a very easy South Piedmont Conference win. A running clock was employed in the fourth quarter after East Rowan went up by 41 points.

The Pharrs got all their points in the first three quarters, as East Rowan stayed close behind South Rowan and Hickory Ridge in the league standings.

“Now that was fun basketball to watch,” East Rowan coach Danielle Porter said. “The most fun I’ve had watching basketball in a long time.”

It was fun for the Mustangs because this game went the way Porter envisioned her team playing this season — dominating the boards with Kelli Fisher and Amani Ajayi and letting the Pharrs run the floor.

“We got pretty hyped for this one,” Shenell Pharr said. “We ran and pressed and we worked together. We got off to a good start and ran with that.”

The Mustangs led 12-0 out of the gate. It was 17-4, after Shenell Pharr hit a 3-pointer. East Rowan held Cox Mill to a single field goal in the second quarter and led, 41-15, at the break.

Shenell Pharr scored 18, a career high and also had four steals and four assists. Shenique Pharr had 13 points. Fisher had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ajayi had six points and 10 boards.  Jocelyn Lowe scored seven and had four steals.

“We did things right early in the game and that gave us confidence,” Porter said. “We were listening and applying. When you do that, wins follow.”

Rachel Barker scored eight for the Chargers (2-6, 2-3).

East Rowan is at West Rowan Tuesday.
