Girls basketball: Salisbury earns first double-digit win of season

SALISBURY — The Hornets got a double-digit victory on Friday, their first of the season. The 52-42 win snapped a string of four straight losses by at least 20 points.

Salisbury held North Stanly to eight points in the second quarter for a 30-21 lead at halftime.

Tyzarea Alexander made three free throws in the last 90 seconds of the third quarter. The Hornets were ahead 45-32 at the start of the final period.

Alexander led the Hornets with 12 points. Katy Wolfe scored eight points while Mystjkal Phifer and Breya Philpot threw in seven points apiece.

The Hornets tried to slow down the offense with four minutes left in the game and a 47-35 lead. The Comets had chances in the fourth quarter to pull off a rally with trips to the foul line and the Hornets still trying to score.

Salisbury sealed the win with a pair of baskets by Myanna Hille and Alexander with two minutes left in the game.
