LANDIS — A.L. Brown’s girls stayed unbeaten on Monday, rolling to a 55-40 win over the Raiders in the South Rowan gym.

The Wonders (4-0), who have a veteran group,  have gotten off to a fast start under coach Mike Wolford  by taking care of business against Rowan schools — Carson, West Rowan, Salisbury and South Rowan. Three of those wins have come on the road.

Kyla Downs, an athletic guard who drives to the basket, scored 18 to lead the Wonders. Talethia Alexander produced 12 points, all on 3-pointers, and Aitana Grant added 10.

The Wonders held high-scoring UNC Pembroke signee Avery Locklear to a season-low of 15 points. Cassidy Chipman scored 10 for the Raiders (3-2).

Alexander got the Wonders going with two 3-pointers, and the Raiders trailed 13-9 after a quarter.

The Wonders started the second quarter with six unanswered points for a double-digit lead and stayed in control the rest of the way.

“We’ve got a rebounding problem and a little bit of a hustle problem, and we’ve got to get those things fixed if we want to go anywhere,” South Rowan coach Jarrod Smith said. “We had an off night, and they played with a whole lot of confidence.”

A.L. Brown hosts Carson on Wednesday. South Rowan returns to SPC play Tuesday at Cox Mill. The Raiders are 3-0 in the SPC.
