Sheriff: Cabarrus County man charged after having sex with 14-year-old

A Cabarrus County man was charged this week after it was reported he had “consensual” sex with a 14-year-old.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Jeremy Allen Smith, 30, was charged Monday with one count felony statutory rape and felony indecent liberties with a child.  Smith was booked into the Rowan County Detention Center early Tuesday morning.

Rowan authorities say it was reported to them the incident occurred in September. Smith reported knew the victim through mutual friends and has known the victim for two years. The investigator concluded Smith knew the victim’s age at the time of the incident.

He was arrested on Monday and placed in the Cabarrus County jail under a $75,000 secured bond and transferred to the Rowan County Detention Center.

Smith was convicted of misdemeanor larceny, injury to property, misdemeanor breaking and entering, driving while license revoked, misdemeanor possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, misdemeanor assault on a female, possession of stolen goods, possession of drug paraphernalia and consuming alcohol while under the age of 21.
