SALISBURY — Salisbury Police have charged a daughter with felony neglect of her mother after receiving a call from Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Monday and a preliminary investigation by Adult Protective Services.

According to reports, Clarice Fleming, 77, of Best Street, suffered a stroke Saturday but was not transported to the hospital until Monday. On examination at the hospital, Fleming’s lower legs also were infected, and overall she displayed issues consistent with neglect.

Police charged Fleming’s daughter, Mamie Marie Fleming, 48, of the same address and placed her under $10,000 bond. The arrest came at the home late Tuesday morning.

Child Protective Services was called in because Mamie Fleming’s children also lived in the home, which police said displayed hoarder-type conditions.
