It’s Cooleemee chicken stew time

COOLEEMEE — In the old days, tradition was to bring your own bowl — and you still can if you like. On Saturday on the historic Zachary House grounds at 131 Church St., visitors are invited to enjoy some of Walt Ferrell’s and Joey Shore’s famous chicken stew.

There will be three different types of chicken stew. For $5 take your pick or try all three. Hot dogs will also be sold. Serving will start at 4:30 p.m.

It will be an afternoon of family fun with a cornhole tournament to begin at 1 p.m. and a horseshoe tournament at 3 p.m. Registration will begin one hour before each tournament, with an entry fee of $5 each. Cash prizes will be awarded as a 50-50 split of the entry fees. All proceeds from this annual fall event will go to the Cooleemee Recreation Department to help fund kids programs, camps and equipment.
