Wilson Cherry wins volunteer award

Wilson R. Cherry  is the 2014 recipient of the First-In-Families Volunteer of the Year Award. Cherry is Special Projects Coordinator and qualified professional at Rowan Vocational Opportunities Inc. and is a member of the First-In-Families management team.

First-In-Families serves developmentally and intellectually disabled children and adults in Cabarrus, Davidson, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. The organization secures donations, volunteers time, goods and services and provides resources and supports through information and referrals to assist andbenefit individuals and families with unique needs.

Cherry previously received the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council Humanitarian Service Award.

Rowan Vocational Opportunities Inc., founded in 1966, is one of 15 Rowan County United Way agencies where Cherry, a Salisbury native, is actively involved in the speakers bureau and Service Above Self. He is a former recipient of the ARC of Rowan’s Professional of the Year Award.
