… Stimulus story is telling

Mr. Hood works for Art Pope. ‘Nuff said. …

“In the same story, the publication reported that the stimulus also benefited Aquesta Bank in Cornelius, where Tillis owns $50,000 to $100,000 in stock, according to the range reported in his financial disclosure form. The report said that Aquesta specializes in projects that receive government tax credits, including some credits created by the stimulus.”

— Karen Puckett

The stimulus package was just a quick way for Obama to re-pay his, and other democrats, bundlers and supporters. There was never any real job creation intended, much less achieved.

… Election won’t solve
all problems

To think that elections alone can solve problems is to put way too much faith in politicians and way too little civic responsibility on the rest of us.

— Bruce LaRue

Getting rid of Jim Sides will make no difference if we vote unwisely or fail to vote at all. There are five seats. Two are held by “Tea Party” Commissioners Pierce and Caskey, who almost always voted with Sides and bought the mall. Their seats are safe till 2016. Three seats are open. If one “Tea Friendly” candidate wins, Jim Sides and the folks … will still call the shots…

…NC insurers press for higher homeowner rates

What’s the purpose of setting a rate? If they will not sell it unless you pay more than that rate?

— Chuck Freeze

Just in time for Halloween: “vampires,” “leeches,” “ticks!”

— Jay Mack Williams

This sounds like a big rip-off in the making.

— Jeff Morris

… Why is there an age minimum for veterans’ dinner?

You can drive at 16, die for your country at 18, but you have to wait until 21 to drink. Don’t you think those who served this county have earned the right to be served alcohol? It may be time to look at the drinking age law again.

… Foster Owen had many passions, but he usually started with music

He was a great man, leader and boss. He will be sorely missed and anyone who got to spend time around him will remember him and if you didn’t know him, you missed out. RIP, Mr. Owens

— Larry Craver

Beautifully written tribute Mark! You captured Foster, and the service, perfectly.

— Judy Randall

… School system to sell computers, tablets … at technology sale

Should have offered to families who (are) unable to afford these type of things in their home first? Just saying.

— Pamela Jefferson

Considering there are many students at an educational disadvantage because they could not afford the devices in the school, I agree with this.

— Melissa Basinger

These devices were the ones that were in the schools before the deployment. They were not used as personal computers, and were so “locked down” with safety features that it’s highly unlikely that anything of note is on them.

— Dale Snyder

I think this is a good idea. The prices are cheap and gives lower income families a chance to purchase something they couldnt afford otherwise.

For all of you saying they should have given them away, people cannot keep expecting things for free. Our schools are suffering from lack of funds so this will help with other things they need for our children. They are already providing the children with these devices for practically free. I can see why they are selling them versus giving them away

…‘The Honey Doctor’ believes in its healing powers

… great to see that some traditional, main stream physicians are being open to what so many in the complimentary-alternative therapies/health-food-store crowd has known for decades. Manuka Honey is also proven to heal stomach ulcers. bravo! Dr. Steele for thinking outside the box.

— Valerie Fellows

I have used honey on wounds before and use it regularly in my diet. I have found my blood sugar level and my health have both seen improvement. Some can call it “folklore medicine” but I’ll let you be the judge. Try it yourself. I’ve heard many people who swear by it.
