Salisbury High School is currently on a code yellow lockdown due to an off-campus security concern earlier this morning.
“We were informed that there was someone in the area — off campus — carrying a shotgun,” said Rowan-Salisbury School System spokeswoman Rita Foil said. “Police immediately put Salisbury High School on lockdown.”
A passing motorist called police to report seeing the man sometime around 9 a.m.
The initial code red lockdown was downgraded to a code yellow after approximately 30 to 40 minutes, Foil said.
The person reported to police as possibly carrying a gun has not been found, and several law enforcement officers remain on Salisbury High’s campus.
During a code red lockdown, all doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or leave the building. Doors remained locked and secured during a code yellow lockdown, but parents may enter the building. Students are not allowed to go outside.
