Question: What is the actual number of/census of (real property) taxpayers in the city of Salisbury and the county overall?
Answer: The number of individual, taxpaying property owners in the City of Salisbury is 9,205, according to figures provided by the Rowan County Assessor’s Office.
The number of individual, taxpaying businesses in the city limits is 353, according to the county assessor’s office.
Barbara McGuire, with the assessor’s office, clarified the figures, saying that the property owners number doesn’t represent the total number of parcels. For example, McGuire said one property owner could own several different land parcels adjacent to each other. So, 9,205 could be lower than the actual number of land parcels in the city limits
The same is true for businesses. One business could own multiple parcels of land.
Figures on county property owners were not readily available last week.
