NASCAR’s first Australian-owned race team to be based in Rowan

NASCAR’S first Australian-owned race team will be locating in Rowan County, according to an email sent out by the county’s economic development director.
The RowanWorks Economic Development organization is hosting an event with Roo Motorsports at 7 p.m. tonight at the Gateway Building in Salisbury, according to the email from Robert Van Geons, RowanWorks executive director.
The email says those in attendance will meet Roo Motorsports’ team leaders and its driver. Also, there will be “an exciting announcement” during an international video conference, according to the email.
According to its website, Roo Motorsports, is the first Australian-owned NASCAR team. The website also says the team is based in Salisbury. The team’s Facebook page shows an address at 191 Speedway Blvd. The location is in the Speedway Business Park just east of Interstate 85 near the Peach Orchard Road exit.
The website says the team “hopes to have a stable in both the Camping World and Nationwide series with two drivers.”
The team’s top driver is 25-year-old Scott Saunders, an Australian who has won world titles in karting, according to the website.
