Christopher Newport freshman Alexandra Drye (Salisbury) went 4-0 in singles at the George Mason Invitational. She won against players from George Mason, Mt. St. Mary’s, Howard and Shepherd. She was 3-1 in doubles.
Carson-Newman freshman Tori Gaul (East Rowan) was the second-best runner for the Eagles in the Victor Ashe Park Fall Classic in Knoxville. Gaul ran 22.31.
• Georgia Southern’s Rebecca Parker (West Rowan) was 27th in her first college meet. Parker was the fifth runner for Georgia Southern in 22:04 at the Carolina Invitational in Columbia.
Garrett Nestor (Davie) had a great game for Brevard in Saturday’s loss to Western Carolina.
Nestor averaged 44.8 yards per punt, with a long of 57 yards, and two downed inside the 20. He also ran for a first down on a faked punt.
Livingstone went 3-0 to start the season.
Lareecia Swiney had 20 kills in a sweep of Morris, 22 in a 3-1 win against Concordia, and 20 in a 3-1 win against Johnson & Wales.
• Catawba (2-3) won 25-17, 25-23 and 25-19 against Pfeiffer (0-4) on Tuesday.
Rachel Gallup paced Catawba with eight kills and only one error.
Catawba forward Kate Weisner was named the AstroTurf SAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The freshman had game-winning goals in her first two games.

Gardner-Webb’s Jake Kennedy (West Rowan) shot 70-74-73 — 217 and tied for 34th in the Golfweek Program Challenge at Pawley’s Island.
• Catawba’s men placed third in the two-day, seven-team Anderson Invitational at Cobb’s Glen Country Club.
Senior Matt Hardman made 10 birdies and led the Indians with a fourth-place finish. Hardman shot 75 and 72, finishing five shots back of medalist Mike Downy of Queens.
The Indians had a 307 team total in the first round and a 299 on Tuesday. Erskine won the event.

North Rowan opened CCC play with a 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17 win against Lexington on Tuesday.
Aliyah Farmer had 10 kills and four aces. Chevy Blaire had six kills, three aces and two blocks. Demeria Robinson had five kills. Taeya Teasley had three kills. Caroline Billingsley had seven aces and two kills.
• Salisbury swept East Davidson on Tuesday to open CCC play.
Juliana Anderson had 11 kills and four aces. Lora Withers had 16 assists, three kills and three aces. De’Leon Duren had five blocks.
Salisbury setter Mary Seifert missed the match with illness.
SPC girls teams competed Tuesday at The Club at Irish Creek.
Cox Mill won with a score of 135. Following the Chargers were East Rowan (143), Carson (148), South Rowan (149), West Rowan (151), Concord (156) and Hickory Ridge (167).
Cox Mill’s Jaime Cassell was medalist with a 39.
Carson’s Micah Furr shot 41. South Rowan’s Alexandria Bare shot 43.
Scorers for East Rowan were Riley Padgett (47), Kathryn Marcum (48) and Grace Stokes (48).
Scorers for Carson were Furr, Adison Collins 50) and Hannah Cargill (57).
Scorers for South Rowan were Bare, Lea Morris (50) and Kolby Fisher (56).
Scorers for West Rowan were Kelly Boley (45), Savannah Lloyd (51) and Kristen Boley (53).
The Rowan County Championships are coming up at Corbin Hills on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
• In MECKA golf at The Club at Irish Creek, Hough shot 131 to win. A.L. Brown placed fourth at 155.
Mackenzie Rodgers shot 46, Cristal Garcia 53, and Jordan Hardeman 56.
Carson rolled 8-0 against South Rowan in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
Khalid Myers scored three goals for the Cougars. Brandon Flores had two. Colton Correll, Pedro Perez and Ricky Maldonado added a goal apiece.
Assists were by Raunel Vasquez (two), Colton Correll (two), Flores, Braxton Rogers and Aaron Lippard,
Carson led 6-0 at halftime.
Grayson Owens and Ines Garcia split goalkeeping duties.
Carson is at home at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against SPC opponent Central Cabarrus.
• Central Cabarrus won 7-0 against West Rowan in SPC soccer on Tuesday. Cox Mill edged Concord 4-3.
Salisbury’s girls dropped a 6-3 decision at home to Lake Norman Charter on Tuesday.
Singles winners for the Hornets were Kathryn Rusher and Maria Capito. Rusher
teamed with Grace Steinman at No. 2 doubles for the Hornets’ other win.
“We competed well today,” Salisbury coach Scott Maddox said. “Emily Capito (No. 5) played with a fever and aches but still fought before dropping a third-set tie breaker. Both doubles matches we lost were close.”
• North Rowan’s girls won 8-1 against East Davidson in CCC tennis on Monday.
Winners for the Cavaliers were Samantha Pritchard, Alexis Rice, Victoria Scheve, Indya Wiggins and Brandy Fox. Veronica Leasure lost a tiebreaker at No. 1. Rice won a tiebreaker at No. 3. Leasure-Pritchard, Rice-Wiggins and Scheve-Fox won in doubles for the Cavaliers (5-3, 1-1 CCC).
• South Rowan fell 9-0 to Concord on Tuesday i SPC tennis. The closest singles match was at No. 1, where South Rowan’s Sydnie Starnes lost to Adelle Patten 6-3, 6-4.

North Rowan won 25-13 and 25-7 against Lexington on Tuesday. Mikayla Young and Ammaryia Harris had eight aces each. Hope Evans had two kills. Payton Russell had three aces.
The North Hills varsity won 25-23, 25-19 and 25-17 on the road against Challenger Early College.
• North Hills varsity soccer lost 3-2 in overtime to Challenger Early College. Seniors Austin Patterson and Leonard Murdock scored for the Eagles.
Sacred Heart’s varsity soccer team won 6-1 against Concordia Lutheran. Luke Holland and William Austin scored three goals each.
In a 4-1 loss to Hickory Christian, Holland scored for the Dolphins.
• Sacred Heart’s cross country team competed well at its first meet at Cedarock Park in Burlington. Ethan Frank and Barney Malloy placed second and third.
• Sacred Heart beat Salisbury Academy in a close contest. Joseph Levy scored two goals for the Dolphins, Sutton Webb, Nicholas Talero and Will Webb scored one.
Scoring for SA was Christopher Portillo. Outstanding for Sacred Heart were Ella Trainor in goal, Luke Graeber, Jalon Walker and Rachel McCullough.
Salisbury Academy soccer team defeated Statesville Christian 8-0.
Mitch Jeter had a hat trick. Jeremiah Whittaker scored two goals. George Fisher, Will Fowler and Joshua Portillo had one each. Hank Robins had three assists. Jeter had two. Charlie Barr and Portillo had one.
• Salisbury Academy’s varsity volleyball team defeated Statesville Christian 2-1. Annabel Barr led in serves. Maggie Dees and Lila Harry were strong at the net. Madelynn Castor played her best game so far.
West Rowan Middle’s girls defeated Corriher-Lipe 5-4.
Singles winners for West Rowan were Payton Holt, Madison Smith and Emma Gussler. Doubles winners for WR were Holt-Skylar Janhke 6-1 and Smith-Gussler.
• Knox defeated Southeast 7-2 on Tuesday.
Singles winners for Knox were Rachel Seifert, Rainey Dunham, Skye Mowery, Laura Bullock, Anna Grace Woolly and Quinnaln Watson.
Winning in doubles for Knox was the team of Kaitlyn Taylor-Ayanna Peek.
Knox plays Salisbury Academy on Wednesday.

Youth soccer
The FCCA Green Dragons (1-0) won a regional contest 5-3. Ben Childress scored two goals, while Maddox Goodnight, Colin Donaldson and Reed Brixey had one each. Leading the defensive effort were Ben Sweet, Nick Antosek and Bennett Clark.
