A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon during a two-vehicle collision on Bendix Drive, in front of Economy Inn hotel, Salisbury Police officials said.
The motorcyclist, a Rowan County man, was coming from Tilley’s Harley-Davidson of Salisbury when his bike met with a Chevrolet passenger car. The crash occurred at 5:15 p.m.
Few details were available Saturday night, but a police supervisor said the car was turning left into the hotel while the motorcycle was traveling toward Innes Street.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet but died as a result of his injuries.
Police said the motorcyclist was not an employee of Tilley’s, but was believed to have been a customer.
No other details regarding the crash were available as of late Saturday night.
The crash came a day before motorcyclists gather at the store to begin a memorial ride for owner, Don Tilley, who was killed in a motorcycle accident a week ago on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville. His wife, Robinette, was critically injured in the same crash.
Tilley’s Harley-Davidson will close today at 3 p.m. and motorcylists will set out from the dealership on Bendix Drive at 3:30 p.m. for a memorial service in Statesville.
