Literacy forum set for September

Want to help work toward better reading skills for local youth? Mark your calendar for Sept. 26.
Business leaders, educators and others will gather for a Literacy Summit Community Forum to be held that day at The Albert J.D. Aymer Center at Hood Seminary.
The tentative agenda, running from 8 a.m. to noon, includes:
• Welcome and invocation by Dr. Vergel Lattimore, president of Hood
• The Education Coalition, Dr. Brien Lewis, president of Catawba College
• Why Literacy First, Dr. Lynn Moody, superintendent of the Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
• A Call to Action, Dr. Carol Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. The goal is to have 100 churches and businesses open homework centers.
• A guest panel.
• Table discussions and debriefing.
• Wrap Up, Dr. Jimmy Jenkins, president of Livingstone College.
More information will be announced as the event nears.
