Civil War historian speaks Wednesday at Rowan Rifles

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., the Rowan Rifles Camp 405 Sons of Confederate Veterans will host award-winning author and historian Michael C. Hardy who will speak on the “War in Western North Carolina.”
Hardy is the author of many books about the War Between the States including “North Carolina Remembers Gettysburg,” “Civil War Charlotte,” “North Carolina in the Civil War” and “Remembering North Carolina’s Confederates.”
He was honored as the 2010 North Carolina Historian of the Year and is an eight-time winner of the Willie Parker Peace History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians. In 2012 he was honored with the Alice Parker Award for Outstanding Work in Literature and Arts from the University of Alabama. Through his very popular North Carolina and the Civil War blog, Hardy shares his research and insights and invites conversation from readers.
Hardy regularly volunteers with a number of local historical societies and associations. He is a member of numerous national organizations, like the Civil War Trust, The Society of Civil War Historians, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He lives with his wife Elizabeth, an English professor at Mayland Community College and literary scholar, their son Nathaniel, and their daughter Isabella.
The event will be held in the Stanback Room at Rowan Public Library and is free to the public.
