Rowan-Salisbury’s 2014 high school graduates were offered more than $9.4 million in college scholarships this year, according to Eisa Cox, the district’s Director of Secondary Education.
Salisbury High School students were offered the most scholarship money per student, and even though it is the district’s third smallest high school, graduates were also offered more scholarship funding than any other school.
Salisbury High students accepted just more than $2 million in scholarship funds, after $2.7 million was offered. The school’s 147 students received more than $18,600 each per capita.
“I’m certainly proud of all of our graduates that receive scholarships.” Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody said. “It is a sign of their hard work and excellence. I greatly appreciate the work of Communities in Schools and Crosby Scholars in helping our guidance counselors and staff to provide scholarship information and encouragement for our students. I hope each of them continue to work hard.”
West Rowan had 235 graduates who accepted $1.6 million out of $2.2 million in scholarship money offered. On average, that’s nearly $9,400 per student.
North Rowan students received $7,115 in scholarship money per capita. The school’s 147 students were offered just over $1 million.
East Rowan graduates were offered $1.3 million and accepted almost that amount, which rounds out to $6,373 each. East Rowan had 210 graduates this year.
Students at South Rowan were offered $1.2 million in scholarships and accepted just over $1 million. With 210 students, the offerings come to roughly $5,500 per student.
The Rowan County Early College students reported $210,922 in scholarships offered. Between the 50 students, that’s more than $4,200 each.
Carson High School students accepted $702,225 in scholarship money — roughly $2620 per student. Carson’s graduating class was 268.
Henderson Independent’s class of 14 was awarded $2,500 in college scholarships — roughly $179 per student.
