An 18-month-old remains in the hospital this morning following an early morning fire at Clancy Hills Apartment and authorities said charges are pending for the child’s mother. The fire occurred around 12:15 a.m. at 112 Clancy St., Apartment C.
Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said the mother was cooking frozen chicken strips in the oven, but turned on the stove instead. She left the apartment to talk with a friend and came back to find a fire in the kitchen.
The child was treated at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for smoke inhalation and was reportedly transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she remains.
Salisbury Police have not released further details.
