New principals Latoya Dixon and Mike Waiksnis are holding a series of meet and greet gatherings to get to know the parents of Knox Middle School students.
The two were chosen from a field of 45 applicants at the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education’s June 2 meeting.
Dixon spent six and a half years as an elementary school principal in the Rock Hill School District, and Waiksnis, who is also coming from Rock Hill, has been a middle school principal for the past six years. Both principals worked under Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody when she was the superintendent there.
Moody called them the “best and brightest” from the Rock Hill School District at a June 3 press conference, praising the pair’s consistent growth at their respective schools.
Dixon and Waiksnis are replacing Terrence Snider, who was principal from August 2012 to March 2014. Snider was the fourth principal to leave the school since 2008.
The meetings will be held during June and July at various times throughout the day.
• Wednesday, June 25, at 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Knox Middle School.
• Thursday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m., Knox.
• Tuesday, July 8, at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Knox.
