Tourism board to hold public hearing on budget

SALISBURY — The city’s tourism board has a called meeting at noon Wednesday to hold a public hearing on the proposed 2014-2015 budget.
Officially called the Salisbury Tourism and Cultural Development Commission, the board will meet at the Gateway Building, 204 E. Innes St., in the second floor conference room.
The city levies a 3 percent tax on hotel rooms, which funds the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The proposed budget for the new fiscal year, which begins July 1, projects $343,000 in occupancy tax proceeds. About $213,400 would go for marketing, about $114,300 would go for capital expenses and about $15,000 would cover operating expenses and an administrative fee.
