SALISBURY — The Human Relations Council will honor five people and a non-profit organization during the annual Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Awards banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Salisbury Depot.
Rowan Helping Ministries, Margaret Kluttz, William Peoples Jr., James Stinson, Dr. Patricia Trueblood and Eleanor Qadirah will receive awards.
The humanitarian awards recognize people and organizations from the Salisbury-Rowan County community that exemplify the ideals of the late Elizabeth Duncan Koontz, the first African American president of the N.C. Association for Educators and one of the organizers who re-established the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council in 1985.
Award winners have made important contributions to improving human relations in the areas of education, employment, housing, industry, business and civic, church or community endeavors.
The Human Relations Council recently dropped Salisbury and Rowan from the organization’s title.
