The Rowan County Board of Commissioners has called an emergency meeting at 6 p.m. today to consider setting another public hearing on applying for a $3.9 million loan.
The loan would replenish the county’s fund balance after buying the Salisbury Mall and cover $500,000 worth of renovations.
The board held a hearing Monday on the subject, at which 73 people signed up to speak against the loan and nine signed up to speak for it. The board limited comments to only five people from each side.
At today’s meeting, the board will discuss “any rules setting forth the total length of time for the hearing, as well as the length of time allotted to each speaker and designation of representatives to speak for large groups,” according to the county’s meeting notice.
The new hearing would be held June 2, if commissioners approve it.
