Buckle your seat belts. The N.C. General Assembly is in session and in a hurry.
One of the first items on today’s House agenda, under “unfinished business,” is Senate Bill 287. The House will be voting on whether to allow local governments in Mecklenberg and Guilford to post public notices on government websites instead of in local newspapers and their websites — thus greatly reducing the number of citizens likely to see those important notices.
Bad idea.
The short session can run long on controversy. Fracking, teacher salaries, Common Core and coal ash ponds are among the issues expected to come up. You can keep up with the legislature’s calendar and look up bills at www.ncleg.net.
