N.C. Highway Patrol officials believe a Salisbury man who was killed Sunday in a motorcycle crash was speeding prior to losing control in a curve on Old Mocksville Road.
Rodney Thompson, 37, was not far from his Newport Drive home, when the crash occurred just before 6 p.m. said Trooper C.F. Rogers. There were no other vehicles involved.
Thompson was in a right curve when he crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and was thrown from the bike. He hit a culvert pipe. He was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene from his injuries.
Rogers said Thompson was traveling faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit, but was not able to provide Thompson’s exact speed.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Fire Department and Rowan EMS also responded.
