West falls to Chargers

West Rowan lost 5-1 at Cox Mill in the first round of the SPC baseball tournament on Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded Chargers scored three runs in the fifth to break open a 1-1 game.
Juan Garcia had two hits for the Falcons. Omar Bautista pitched a complete game and struck out five.
Cox Mill lefty Julian Smith fanned 10, and Chris Wright drove in three runs.
Cox Mill will play at home today in a 4:30 semifinal against top-seeded East Rowan. The top four seeds won tournament games on Tuesday, so fifth-seeded West is in the playoffs.
• East Davidson beat Salisbury 5-0 on Tuesday in the CCC semifinals in Tyro to end the Hornets’ season.
Salisbury (6-17) made four errors and had only two hits — by Chance Bowden and Harrison Smith.
Kolton Hawks and Nathan Campbell had two hits each for the Golden Eagles (15-5) to back strong pitching by Ryan McIntyre.
Top-seeded East Davidson will play No. 2 seed West Davidson in the tournament championship game at 7 Thursday in Tyro. West Davidson beat North Rowan 2-0 in the semis.
• A.L. Brown won 3-2 in nine innings against Mallard Creek in the MECKA tournament on Tuesday.
Matt Brown went the distance on the mound and held Mallard Creek to five hits. He struck out seven.
Trace Hagler drove in Geoffrey Jarvis with Brown’s first run. Damon Johnson drove in Tyler Henley and scored the deciding run.
Hagler went 3-for-4.
The Wonders play in a semifinal on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Hough.
• Also in the MECKA, Robinson beat Hopewell 3-2.
Salisbury’s Michael Ogden will take on Durham School of he Arts’ Ian Lobaugh in the first round of the 2A state championships at the Cary Tennis Center on Thursday.
Salisbury’s Clint Comadoll-Spencer Storey doubles team will take on Clinton’s Aaron Viser-Connor Bass in the first round on Thursday.
• Salisbury’s tennis team lost 5-1 at Brevard in the second round of the 2A dual team state playoffs on Tuesday. Ogden won 6-2, 7-6 at No. 1 singles for the Hornets’ victory.
Comadoll lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Storey lost 4-6, 7-6, (10-8) at No. 3. Abraham Post, who played in the golf regional earlier in the day, lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Chris Derrick lost 6-3, 4-6, (10-4) at No. 5. David Derrick lost 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6.
• East Rowan lost 6-0 at Marvin Ridge in the second round of the 3A playoffs.
Carson lost 3-1 to Hickory Ridge in SPC soccer. Lyndsey Moore scored for the Cougars. Cassie Howard assisted.
• East Rowan lost 2-0 to Central Cabarrus in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
Catawba honored baseball’s Julio Zubillaga and soccer’s Anna Toole on Tuesday as its top male and female senior athletes. Basketball’s Mallary Clay and baseball’s Mario Parisi received awards for leadership.
Volleyball’s Anna Logan received the Iron Horse Award for coming back from two knee injuries.
Team MVPs for all sports were announced, including Craig Brooks for baseball, Tyrece Little and Chloe Bully for basketball and Nate Charest for football.
Boys rosters were announced for the Ronnie Gallagher Memorial All-Star Game scheduled for Friday at North Rowan.
It will be an orange vs. black game. Gallagher graduated from North Davidson High, where the school colors are orange and black, and he also covered the orange and black Davie War Eagles for many years before coming to the Post. A number of Winston-Salem Prep players and Davie’s Peyton Sell are participating in the game along with Rowan standouts. See Scoreboard for rosters. A girls all-star game will be played at 6:30, with the boys game following at 8.
Teven Jones (A.L. Brown) has transferred from Virginia to Appalachian State.
Kannapolis’ Tyler Danish was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week.

Wingate, Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne will represent the SAC in the Southeast Regional that starts May 9, with North Georgia and Anderson hosting.
Rowan Little League is taking registrations for players (ages 13-14) interested in playing Junior League.
Practice and games will beging soon after the middle school tournament is completed. Any players who live in or go to school within Rowan Little League’s boundaries are eligible to play.
The cost is $100 per player.

East Rowan’s Wyatt Blume will wrestle at Belmont Abbey, while South Rowan golfer Evan Neas has committed to North Greenville.
The Corbin Hill Ladies Golf Association played a gross/net round on Tuesday.
Treva Honeycutt won low gross.
Next were Faye Cline and Carolyn Reis. Mary Seaford won low net. Next were Eileen Full and Sheryl Johnson. Becky Isenhour and Phyllis Durland won low putts.
• Fifty-eight GARS members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills. Jim Adams, Gordon Correll, Jim Diffenderfer and David Lee were the winning team at minus-10.
The second-place team at minus-7 consisted of Bobby Bryant, Ross Howard, Doug Lingle and Ernest Wagner. Two teams tied for third at minus-6.
West Rowan won 13-4 against Knox. Cole Myers, Dillon Simpson, Mykal Berger and Owen White led West’s offense. Payne Stolsworth pitched.
