The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra offers a concert with music that is “Out of this World!”
Science fiction aficionado and music director David Hagy has programmed a concert of some of his favorite music — yours, too!
On Saturday, May 10, the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra will deliver a program including music from Star Wars, Star Trek, and, yes, Stargate! Themes from movies “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “E.T.,” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” mix it up, and, of course, Holst’s Planets are represented: Mars, Venus, and Jupiter.
This pops concert is sponsored by Fibrant which will be offering “Fibrant punch” at the reception following the concert. Orbit gum, courtesy of Wrigley, will be available to all concert-goers as well after the concert.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Keppel Auditorium on the Catawba College campus. Tickets are $22 for adults age 19 and older, $6 for students ages 9-18 and college students with valid ID, and $4 for children ages 8 and younger.

The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra’s theme for next season is “Puzzles,” and it wasn’t long before readers of the season brochure got a taste of it!
First of all, there is the error referring to the day of the week that the North Carolina Symphony’s concert of all-Tchaikovsky music occurs. The date is correct — January 31, 2015 — but the day of the week is not Friday, it is Saturday.
In addition, clarification of what is included in a ‘season’ ticket is offered. The five concerts — four by the Salisbury Symphony and one by the North Carolina Symphony – make up the season for the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. A ‘season’ ticket is actually five individual tickets, one for each of those concerts.
Both “Les Miserables” (a collaboration between the Piedmont Players and Salisbury Symphony) and “The Nutcracker” (a collaboration between the Piedmont Dance Theatre and Salisbury Symphony) are in addition to the season, and tickets for each need to be ordered separately and online.
Tickets for “Les Miserables” will be available to the public later this year; go to piedmontplayers.com for updates. “The Nutcracker” tickets will be available through the salisburysymphony.org website by June.
In both cases, you may choose specific seats, and ticket prices will vary according to where your reserved seats are located.
