Cannon School students inspire and collaborate at Mint Museum
More than 330 Cannon School students, parents and teachers from the lower, middle and upper schools brought the Mint Museum Uptown to life on April 13 with music, acting, dancing and visual and media artworks.
Cannon was part of the Mint Museum Uptown’s Sunday Fun Day featuring gallery visits, activities and artist demonstrations for all ages.
Cannon students and teachers prepared a program showcasing the school’s comprehensive arts program. Visual arts offerings included the exhibition, “Inspiration + Collaboration,” a collection of fine and digital artworks produced by student-artists in junior kindergarten through 12th grade housed in the Star Gallery.
Meanwhile, drawing inspiration from the work of Mathias Bengtsson, Noriko Ambe and Mia Pearlman, students created a work of art — from start to finish — using only glued sheets of cut paper.
Visitors also got tangled up in a noodle-filled explosion of color by joining in a hands-on art experience inspired by the work of Paul Jenkins and Sheila Hicks.
Inspired by Hoss Haley’s metal sculpture, “White Ripple,” student artists demonstrated the ripple effect of creative inspiration by presenting multimedia performances based on two student-written poems and integrating film, dance, theater and music.
As attendees explored the museum, Cannon’s jazz band greeted visitors on the terrace, and the string quartet played above the auditorium. The concert band set the stage for the mixed media piece in the auditorium, and two a cappella groups took the stage following them.
