SALISBURY — Five Rowan County women were recognized Thursday at the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Women In Business Lunch & Learn, sponsored by Carillon Assisted Living.
Carillon surveyed more than 100 medical providers, patients and families to determine which women were viewed as leaders in the local health-care industry.
At the luncheon held at High Rock Community Church, “5 Outstanding Women in the Medical Field” were announced and recognized for leadership in health care.
More than 70 women attended. Honorees referenced faith, family and perseverance as key factors driving their successful career paths.
Among those honored were: Dari Caldwell, president of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center; Wendy Livengood, executive director Carillon Assisted Living; Edwina Ritchie, director of Glen A. Kiser Hospice House; Barbara Garwood; LSC Care Management director of community services; and Wendy Blackwell, administrator of Magnolia Gardens Extended Care Community.
Caldwell said collaboration among health-care organizations and agencies will be key to improving the health-care status of Rowan County residents.
Livengood said the old days of health care being defined as just hospitals and doctors is long gone.
“Today’s health-care system is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary network of providers working together to help people live healthier and happier lives,” she said.
Stephanie Linn, Carillon Assisted Living marketing director and event coordinator, said the event helped recognize the many contributions women have made as healthcare providers.
“Each of these women have been driving forces in healthcare in Rowan County and will continue to partner with other community resources to meet needs of our citizens,” she said.
Women In Business Chairwoman Penny Greer Link of the VA Medical Center and Vice Chairwoman Shelia Igo of Greystone Salon & Spa said they felt the chamber’s first Lunch and Learn was a success, and they look forward to planning more.
