KANNAPOLIS — The North Carolina Research Campus and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites-Kannapolis have formed an educational partnership to support the Plant Pathways Elucidation Project (P2EP), a groundbreaking scientific and educational collaboration.
As a member of the Research Campus preferred partners program, Holiday Inn Express, located off of Interstate 85 at Exit 60 in Kannapolis/Concord, is sponsoring a scholarship for a student to take part in P2EP, and offering a special rate to companies or individuals who mention the Research Campus when booking. Each room night reserved through the collaboration will return a portion of each reservation to support P2EP.
P2EP engages college students from across North Carolina to work with university scientists and industry leaders to map plant pathways in food crops like blueberries, broccoli, oats and strawberries. The goals are to better understand how compounds beneficial to human health form in plants and to create a bioinformatic knowledge base while providing training for the next generation of scientists.
“We are proud to partner with the NCRC and the P2EP project to support the great research that takes place an a daily basis” said Jennifer Merritt, general manager of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites-Kannapolis. “Our hotel looks forward to welcoming travelers to the Kannapolis/Concord area and the related support of the P2EP program.”
The NCRC offers the preferred partner program to local businesses as way for them to support the campus and reach its 19 partners and their employees. Jobs associated with the campus are approaching 1,000.
The Research Campus and Holiday Inn Express & Suites will also be launching a joint social media campaign to promote good health and the discoveries being made at the Research Campus.
