On March 10, 106 second-grade students at Koontz Elementary School were treated to a special book club guest, Dicy McCullough.
McCullough is a local author of children’s books who spoke to students about the importance of reading and writing. She shared how she finds topics to incorporate in her books. She has modeled book characters after real people and animals and has even used artwork and ideas suggested by students.
McCullough read her book “I’m Tired of Being Different.” All students received a copy for their home libraries. Teachers received a classroom copy of the free book.
The first- and second-grade book clubs at Koontz are sponsored by Communities In Schools of Rowan County, Schneider Electric and Target Foundation Early Literacy Grants. Beth Foreman is the CIS site coordinator at Koontz. CIS Rowan is a Rowan County United Way Agency.
