Yesterday: For the Blackmers, there’s a new Ford in town

This photograph has appeared before in the Salisbury Post, but it’s worth publishing again. Sidney Blackmer — Salisbury’s star of Broadway, movies and television — is shown second from left, receiving the first Ford Fairlane delivered in Salisbury in 1957. Others in the photograph are, left to right, A.D. Dorsett, Suzanne Blackmer and Haywood Miller. The picture was taken in the front yard of the Blackmers’ home on South Fulton Street. This same house, severely damaged in a 1984 fire, was recently sold by Historic Salisbury Foundation to Glenn and Beth Dixon, who plan a total restoration. Note the columns in front, which the Dixons plan to bring back.
