KANNAPOLIS — Excessive rainfall this week caused a sewer overflow from a manhole at the intersection of N.C. 3 and Mason Street.
The overflow occurred between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Approximately 4,350 gallons of untreated, diluted wastewater were released. Heavy, continuous rains led to a high flow that exceeded the sewer main capacity.
The impacted area has been cleaned and sewer flow has returned to normal. For more information, contact Wilmer Melton, director of Public Works for Kannapolis, or David Fargo, the city’s water resources manager, at 704-920-4200.
In accordance with regulatory protocol, notification of the incident has been given to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
