Carson’s softball team won 6-1 against East Rowan on Friday.
Lacee Hunsucker struck out 10. Michaela White had two hits for the Cougars.
Hunsucker, Morgan Penninger, Jana Bradshaw, Mariah Mogan, Adison Collins and Rachel Freeze had a hit apiece.
• Hunter Gibbons belted two home runs to lead West Rowan to a 10-3 SPC win against Northwest Cabarrus on Friday. Marissa Yow had two hits for the Falcons. Taylor Martin had a key hit.
Leah McCoy held Northwest to five hits.
• Central Cabarrus won 10-0 against Gray Stone in a non-conference game on Friday.
• South Rowan won 16-5 against Concord in an SPC game on Friday.
Logan Lowery had three hits and pitched a strong game. She fanned 12 and held the Spiders to five hits.
Alexcis Cameron drove in six runs for South.
Kiala Dyer and McKenzie Ward had two hits each.
Catawba softball
Catawba’s softball team (9-1) opened play at the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., on Friday with a 4-0 shutout of GRU Augusta.
Carley Tysinger (6-0) pitched the shutout, allowed three hits and struck out 13.
Local golf
Alice and Burl Brady won low gross in the ‘C’ Division of the Four-Ball Getaway Tournament in the Dominican Republic.
Women’s hoops
Pfeiffer’s Amy Steller (Davie) finished second in Conference Carolinas in free-throw percentage. Steller mdae 86.9 percent from the foul line. She also finished in the top 10 in the league in steals and offensive rebounds.
Steller scored 12 points and went 8-for-8 from the line in the season finale against Erskine.
