Coonhounds returned to the Rowan County Fairgrounds this week for the United Kennel Club’s 41st Annual Southeastern Treeing Walker Days.
A friendly competition that showcases top hounds from across the country and includes bench shows and night hunts — during which no game is taken and no firearms are allowed — the event continues today at the fairgrounds on Julian Road.
On Friday, owners showed coonhounds from puppies to the seniors division.
United Kennel Club officials say the Southeastern Treeing Walker Days is one of the top five coonhound events in the nation.
Spectators are encouraged to attend, but asked to leave their own pets at home. Coonhound owners and breeders are available to discuss the breed’s temperaments, abilities, training, ownership and handling.
