This 1900 photograph, a copy of a picture from the late James S. Brawley’s collection, shows the horse-drawn ice wagon that used to deliver ice to the homes of Salisburians. These fellows worked for Salisbury Ice and Fuel, which was located on East Horah Street. Children of the day found great pleasure in hopping a ride on the rear end of the wagon to grab pieces of ice during hot summer days. You can barely make out the ice tongs being held by the young man on the far right. A tall remnant structure of the Salisbury Ice and Fuel operation still stands next to the railroad tracks on East Horah Street.
