DOT brine trucks coating streets in preparation for storm

Local Department of Transportation workers are out on the primary roads today laying down brine in preparation for the coming storm — regardless of how much snow it drops.
“Right now, we’re still doing an anti-icing operation and pouring down some brine solution. However, it is mostly wait and watch and see what happens,” Rowan County Maintenance Engineer Kevin Neal said.
Crews were active yesterday, Neal said, but had to stop due to the rain.
Officials have 30,000 gallons of brine on hand, and Neal said the trucks typically put down a little more than that — around 39,000 gallons in each operation.
“What we do is treat the road for safety. Unless you absolutely have to go out — stay home,” Neal said. “The last thing we need is for the traveling public to be out on the roads while our trucks are out there.”
