Over the past seven years, students across America have competed to have their artwork featured on Google’s homepage for a day.
Last year, Granite Quarry Elementary School second-grader Aryman “A.J.” Jana was chosen as the North Carolina finalist for his picture, “The day my little sister was born.” The theme was “My best day ever…”
This year, students will redesign the Google logo using the theme, “If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place…”
Submissions are due March 20. State winners will be announced April 29 and public voting begins for the national winner. On May 21, the 50 state winners will go to a final awards celebration at Google’s headquarters, where the national winner will be announced.
The winning artwork will be displayed on Google’s homepage on June 9. The artist will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for their school. Also, they will get to be an honorary Google doodler for the day at the company’s headquarters.
Google’s guest judges include authors, designers, astronaut, artists and directors.
